Our role models
Other organisations who help you support the purchase of organic farmland
Fordhall Farm
Fordhall Farm was rescued by its young tenant farmers, whose family had farmed it organically for years, from being sold for building development. They formed a company whose members bought shares that bought the farm they contunue to work. "One farmer 8000 landlords". With a different legal structure, Organic-Countryside CIC aims to be much the same as Fordhall Farm
A farmland trust & charity with four farms in the west country, originally the Land Heritage Trust, now amalgamated with the Soil Association Land TrustIt concentrates on receiving inheritances of organic farms.
Organic certification
There are four organisations who can certify English farmland as organic. We chose the Soil Association as our certification body but later had to de-register as it is much too expensive for a smallhoding of nine acres.
Soil Association
The Soil Association is a charity that runs Soil Association Certification Ltd: the market leaders in UK organic producer and processor certification. We were registered with the Soil Association but this ended in June 2016 as registration is now much too costly for smallholders..
